Graduating with an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota, David Copson had a long career in printmaking from which he is now retired.  Working out of the major printmaking workshops in New York, he collaborated  with many renowned artists and had a ten year stint as the Technical Director of the prestigious Atelier Ettinger.
A Vision Quest into the Inyo Mountains of the California high desert became the main creative impetus for his paintings. Late in life, multiple reconstructive heart surgeries for a genetic heart condition and a near death experience  created a sense of urgency to his artistic expression and clarified his artistic vision.
Today, David paints in his studio in rural central Virginia where he lives with his mystical wife of 47 years and five children and 12 grandchildren all nearby.
Continued personal shamanic journeys and an amateur interest in astronomy, cosmology and astrophysicis inform his latest paintings.
