| Artisan jewelry and polymer clay artist Mary Mauritzen (PC Goddess) was born in Omaha, Nebraska and spent most of her life in the Midwest before relocating to Arizona in 1995.
Mary’s interest in the arts has been life-long and she has always been involved with it in some shape or form. Now her passion is creating one-of-a-kind designs in polymer clay and artisan jewelry.
Polymer clay is not earth clay like potters use; it is made from solid and liquid polymers. These substances will cure (harden) in an ordinary home oven at approximately 275° for 30 minutes - long enough to harden the liquid part (plasticizer) and fuse the clay body together.
This clay is an exciting medium to work with because the artist can sculpt, carve, mold, cane, or add inclusions like leaf, glitter, or even crushed dried herbs. The artist can mimic organic things like stone or create pieces that look like metal or even lamp work glass.
In addition to polymer clay, Mary works with semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystal, pearls and precious metals like sterling silver to make jewelry. Her pieces are created to showcase the beauty of the individual stones.
Mary has appeared on “Good Morning Arizona” on KTVK Channel 3 twice and has demonstrated polymer clay at art shows in various locations in Arizona. She is an accomplished teacher of modern and contemporary jewelry-making on the beginning and advanced levels. She is a current member of the National Polymer Clay Guild.
