Alisa Nielsen uses copper inlays to create her design detail which she created in the traditional Ksan (her tribe) formwork but has then skeletonized the design to control the copper movement in the glass creation. The colourway is created using several colours of powdered glass which are sifted and have gone through a fusing process prior. This eagle design is based on her visit to the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) in BC. Although there are numerous bald and golden eagles there, this particular eagle seemed to follow her around the Island! He would fly alongside her vehicle while she drove and if she stopped, he would perch himself in a tree or the shore very near her. Each time she would go to take his picture, he would either take off (too fast to get him in flight) or turn around or lift his wing (he even mooned her once). After a few days of this behavior and as she had to leave, she had nearly given up and had the camera put away. Then he showed again and soared directly over her head, doing circles. So she took out her camera and he circled enough to let her take a picture of him in flight! Hence the design was born! The overall design is based on a worn drum skin whose design might have been created for a traditional salmon run opening ceremony. approximately 16 inch diameter - Hyde Colourway
