Silver Moon and Ginger

24" x 36"

Acrylic on panel

While working on my current series, State Fair, USA, I've discovered that I love to paint carousel horses! The carousels I paint are the traveling kind seen in carnivals. Every year the same horses return to my State Fair. Some are wearing a new coat of paint, or installed in a different order on the ride, but I always recognize my favorites. I even name them. Silver Moon is a big, handsome fellow, but a bit skittish. He always looks a little wild in the eye, as if he's just been startled. I'm not sure I trust him. Ginger is a bit smaller, not as flashy as Silver, but he's a sweetheart. Don't be fooled by his high head carriage or his tendency to prance a few steps. It's all for show. He's really a a calm and reliable mount. The painting is signed "L Spanos" in the lower right corner, and fully signed and titled on the back. It's ready to hang as is, with dark red painted sides exposed, or you can frame it to suit your decor. (These panels look great in floater frames.) The panel is museum quality, cradled with Baltic birch sides 1.5" deep. Painting ships from the artist's studio in Indianapolis, Indiana.
