This old barn is a survivor. It’s on a ranch that is abandoned now, and its outbuildings are tumbling down. Wind, rain, and snow have taken their toll. The roof is half open, boards and shingles falling in. Wood is weathered to amber tones. Who knows how much longer it can stand.

And yet it does. Even when fires raged all around it in the surrounding hills, somehow this barn was spared. I’d like to think that was so that I could paint it. Which I’ve done now several times. For me, it is a symbol of what endures in the West, and becomes more beautiful with each year it survives.

The story of how I found this barn and the paintings it has inspired were told in a recent newsletter called “Barn NOT Burning.”

All of my works are professionally matted and framed, using the highest quality glass. Please note that the dimension above are for the image only; the framed work is larger. You can contact me for a description and photo of the painting fully framed.
