High on Mt Reynolds in Glacier National Park this huge Hoary Marmot is nested onto a ledge. Red, teal, gray rocks covered with bright yellow and orange lichen. The mixed media painting is a contrast of soft critter and sharp rocks. Colorful lichen of paint skins and natural camouflage created with pattern pieces and fabrics. The Hoary Marmot is a curious, hearty, ground squirrel (the largest of the Marmot species) found in the mountainous areas and sometimes dubbed "whistlers" because of their unique way of communicating and sounding alarms. Marmots are a delight to encounter along the trail.
