Wash Day Blues

by Helen L. Rietz

16" x 12"

Found in an old ghost town ...and it brought back a powerful memory. Mondays were wash day when I was tiny, and on that day my sisters and I went down to the basement to play while our mother squeezed clothes through the wringer before hanging them on a line. Daily household chores were women's work, and hard work too. Did the woman who washed here have a moment to appreciate the beauty of her aquamarine machine and copper bowl?

All of my works are professionally matted and framed, with non-glare conservation glass. Please note that the dimensions above are for the image only; the framed work is larger. You can contact me for a description and photo of the painting fully framed.
