I studied Plant Biology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Since graduating, I have worked in biology labs ands botanical gardens in Canada, Germany and South Africa. Together with my partner and son, I now call the Lake Constance area of Germany my home.

I am a self-taught artist and began painting botanical watercolours in 2004. In April, 2005, my first (solo-) exhibit was held at the Botanical Garden Potsdam, Germany.  Shortly thereafter, I received a commission to illustrate new interpretive signage for this garden. Since discovering my love for botanical art, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to live and work in one of the richest floral areas in the world - the Cape Floral Region of South Africa. For the couple of years I lived in South Africa, I worked as a pollination biology research assistant and free-lance scientific illustrator. And while there, I exhibited in the province of KwaZulu Natal at the Blue Caterpillar Gallery - Butterflies for Africa, and in the Western Cape at The Cape Gallery - Annual Wildlife Exhibition, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens Biennale 2006, and South African Airways Cape Town Flower Show 2006. More recent exhibits include Artisan Exhibition ArtPlace88 in Berne, Switzerland, and a number of art markets, garden shows and art exhibitions in and around Konstanz, Germany.

Although I have explored other media - charcoal, graphite and coloured pencil - I am completely drawn to the delicacy and fluidity of watercolour. Many of my works are pure watercolour creations but often I delve into the realm of mixed media watercolour, accentuating the painting with graphite detailing, dabbing gouache here and there or brushing on Gum Arabic. My absolute favourite is macro floral imagery, with the close-up and larger-than-life perspective allowing for an accurate and finely detailed painting. I love painting detail. It's the detail (and shading) that imparts a sense of photo-realism to my work. I strive to capture on paper (and sometimes on canvas) the intrinsic beauty of flowers and foliage, with all the blemishes and tiny imperfections included.
